A quick look at Santa Fe

I'm still having problems uploading some of my pictures from Santa Fe, New Mexico, but here are a few. . . . what a beautiful place!

Corks and Canvas

After visiting so many art galleries in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Dave and I became inspired to come home and do some of our own artwork!!



Dave got his hundreds. . . .no, THOUSANDS. . . .of corks down from the rafters in the garage. He has been saving them for YEARS! He said that "someday" he wanted to do a "project." He wasn't sure what he was going to do with them, but he kept saving them. It got to the point where the boys and I suggested he build a boat with them, since he had SO many of them!

So he has spent days (literally) just sorting the corks into various categories: wine corks with names of wineries on them, plain corks, champagne corks, "old wine corks," etc. He got out a piece of wood to try to create something. . . .but still isn't sure what. But at least he's in a creative frame of mind!

I got a blank canvas out of the garage, that I've had for about 8 months now, to finally create a project I've had on my mind for that long. I really was inspired by all the different types of mediums that the artists used in Santa Fe. . . .they used all sorts of materials to create different textures and different colors and different types of artwork! So, I'm geared up to finally get a dose of creativity going, especially since I don't have to be working on Master's papers anymore! Yeah!! Inspiration and time ---- a creative person's dream! : )

As soon as one (or both) of us finish our projects, I'll post pictures. And, if you have any suggestions about what to do with thousands of corks, send them my way!!

New Mexico vacation - New Mexican food

I've been trying to upload some pictures from our vacation in Santa Fe, but for some reason it's not working. So instead, I'll tell you about some of the places we ate!!

On our way to Santa Fe, we stopped in a little town named Madrid. Apparently it is now most famous for the fact that the movie Wild Hogs was filmed there. We had lunch at a the Mine Shaft Tavern, which says it has the "longest stand-up bar in New Mexico."

In Santa Fe, we were of course looking for true 'New Mexico' type of food. We were told that the locals go to a place named Maria's, so we went there for our first lunch in Santa Fe. It boasts over 125 kinds of Margaritas, and over 100 different types of tequila by the glass. The restaurant has been there since 1950, and they have published a book about "great margaritas." I had some awesome enchiladas, and Dave had a dish called Carne Adovada, which he loved.

Another great place for New Mexican food is Tomasita's. It is one of those places where you have to go and WAIT for a table. The service was great, and the"chile" was HOT. (The sauce that is put on top of your food is called "chile." You can get it at all of the places either red, green, or my favorite, a combination of the two, which you order as "Christmas.")

We had breakfast at Tia Sophia's, which is best known for its Huevos Rancheros. Dave and I decided that they weren't the best Huevos Rancheros we had ever had, but they were good.

I think I ate enough "New Mexican" food to last me a L-O-N-G time!! I kept telling Dave that I was NOT going to eat Mexican food ever again! (We'll see how long that proclamation lasts!) :)

Diet? What diet?!?!

I've decided there is NO WAY one could come to Santa Fe and be on a diet!!! The food here is unbelievable. . . .especially if you are Mexican food fiends like me and Dave! Yum! No rain today but lots of clouds, which made for beautiful pictures. Can't wait to show some when we get back!
